Nature Walk With My Boy

Even though I committed to the idea a bit ago, I hadn’t really started doing anything to prepare for the 5K yet. A quite nasty summer cold had a hold on me for the whole week, and my only real goals were getting through the work day, sleeping, and breathing through my nose. And while it doesn’t quite count as “training”, this past weekend I suggested to Rob, my boyfriend, that maybe we could go on a bit of a “nature walk” in the preserve near his house after dinner. He pointed out that it is about 3 miles around, but I thought that made it sound even better.

Since I like to track my bike routes on RunKeeper (and I plan on doing the same for my runs), I turned on the GPS and was curious to see how long it would take us. I also thought this could serve as a bit of a baseline for myself. Both of us are naturally pretty fast walkers, and we kept a pretty steady pace throughout. The final result: 47 minutes, 2.9 mi, 16:19.5 min/mi. It was by no means challenging, and I’m not sure if that’s quick or anything, but the best part was honestly just being outside in beautiful weather and talking and spending time together. Its always fun to go out and do things or stay in and watch TV with someone you love, but I think there’s usually something special in the times you can just be together and talk and laugh. 🙂

And, you know, then you go out and get ice cream from Coldstone and undo any good that walk did! 😀
